This urban landscapes series addresses issues of perception and memory of place. Having been trained to decode the intent and intended experience behind highly designed environments, the indecipherable meaning of these locations draws me.  In the most literal sense, we do not perceive these locations as they are. They are ignored when memories of a neighborhood, a walk, or an early morning commute are assembled.  My analytical nature seeks to resolve this ambiguity through examination and documentation.

Standing in front of these locales, I am blind to the intense saturated colors.  Grown of multiple layers of light pollution from neighboring signs, tungsten streetlights, and urban haze these tones are seen only after capture on slide transparency film.  The final prints are matched to the film as closely as possible. Impossible with digital cameras, the long exposures range from 1 to 15 minutes.  In a process developed through trial and error, my own eyes have become the only exposure meter used to capture an image that I do consciously perceive during first hand experience.  I stand and stare attempting to see, yet am always shown an alternate reality on the final film.
